About the Santa Fe Lake Dwellers Association, Inc.

The Santa Fe Lake Dwellers Association was formed in 1978, in response to attempts by Georgia Pacific to mine the peat of the Santa Fe Swamp. It was during that long struggle, led by former association president Harold Hill, that the lake gained its “Outstanding Florida Water” designation. Ultimately Georgia Pacific donated its swamp holdings to the people of the state of Florida, and it is now managed for hunting and hiking by the Suwannee River Water Management District.

2012 LakeFest.3Over the years the Association has responded to numerous threats to the water quality of Lake Santa Fe. As a result, the Association has earned a reputation for steadfast lake advocacy and stewardship. Strength in numbers and the resolve of volunteers have earned it the respect of state and local governing bodies. Photo shows a past LakeFest and clean-up at Melrose Bay Park.

Please consider joining your lake association! Volunteers are always welcome, as well as the financial contributions of those unable to give of their time. Annual family membership dues are only $35.00. Additional contributions are always helpful and gratefully accepted!
